On the weekend of November 14 - 16 the Las Vegas Dutch Oven Society held our Thanksgiving gathering at the Callville campground at Lake Mead. Being the Thanksgiving gathering, we did a turkey and all the goodies. The weather cooling off so it is the prefect time of year to be out camping at the lake. Here's Jim's and Joanne's trailers nestled into their campsites. Dave and Kathleen's trailer is just out of sight behind Joanne's teardrop trailer. ![]() We used Jim's 17" Maca oven to roast up a beautiful 20 pound bird. That Maca is a big ol' oven! It sure did a nice job on that bird. ![]() Joanne is getting some more coals going so we can finish up the yams. ![]() Here's another photo of the bird as we are getting ready to pull it out of the oven. It came out moist and beautifully tender. ![]() We carved the turkey and had enough for the eight of us, with lots of leftovers. Trudy is getting the remaining turkey covered up so we could get to the business of eating! Yum. ![]() Joanne is starting to make up some gravy. She added a couple of cans of chicken broth and some corn starch and we had gravy. ![]() We were so busy eating that we didn't get a chance to get any pictures of the table full of wonderful food. LOL! It was really a great time sharing good food with good friends. After dinner Jim built a campfire at his campsite so we all sat around and chatted until we couldn't stay awake any longer. I'm already looking forward to next year's Thankgiving gathering! Thanks to Jim for the photos! |
