The Las Vegas Dutch Oven Society was invited to participate in the 2008 Boy Scout Mega Expo held at Sunset park. This was our first large event so we were really excited. We had two events planned, a day-long Dutch oven demonstration and a camp cooking cook-off. Both events turned out great and everyone had a good time! Here's our cook-off demonstration area. The weather was warm and sunny so the canopy was very welcome. ![]() Here's our sanitation station. On the left with the Coleman label is the hot water pump. The blue container with the Lowe's label is the hand washing station. On the right is the three basin dish washing station. It's a good thing that we were prepared because the county health department dropped by for an inspection. Although the inspection was a little stressful the inspector was very informative and gave us some good tips on sanitation and food safety. ![]() Jim never goes anywhere without his smile! He's a great cook and a great guy. ![]() We decided to serve beef stew and corn bread samples to the visitors. Here's Trish getting ready to brown the meat. Folks just couldn't get over the size of the Maca oven. ![]() The lid is heavy enough that it takes two people to lift it. Check out the lid lifter. Not your normal Mair lifter! ![]() Kelly cooked a pineapple upside down cake in this little 5" oven. With a bit of creativity these little ovens can be a lot of fun to cook with. ![]() A pineapple upsidedown cake for one! Yum!! ![]() Although we didn't use it on this event, Adonis and Trish showed off their massive cooking table. It's a monster! ![]() Kathleen is discussing Dutch oven cooking with a couple of visitors. ![]() Here's Kelly's full size pineapple upsidedown cake. She did this one just for display but the spectators kept requesting to eat it! ![]() Here's a 5" and a 12" side by side. The flexibility of these ovens is amazing. ![]() We decided to camp overnight after the event. We were all exhausted and that bed sure felt good. A leisurely breakfast, then tear down and head for home. ![]() This was a great way to kick off the club's history of Dutch oven events. |
